IceDogs training camp opens August 31st
- The Niagara IceDogs are set to open training camp on Tuesday, August 31 at the Meridian Centre with camp concluding on Thursday, September 2.
- The IceDogs will play their annual Red vs White game on September 2 at 7 p.m. at the Meridian Centre. The game is free of charge but tickets are required.
- Tickets can be reserved ahead of time by contacting the IceDogs office.
- Tickets will also be available at the door.
Swiss defenceman commits to Niagara IceDogs
- The Niagara IceDogs have received a commitment from Swiss defenceman Rodwin Dionicio.
- Dionicio was selected 18th overall in the first round of the 2021 CHL Import Draft.
- Dionicio spent the past season with the Bern U17 and U20 programs in Switzerland’s U17 and U20 Elite leagues, where he tallied four goals and 20 points in 41 games combined between the two leagues.
- He also represented the Swiss National Team at the U17 and U18 levels, appearing in 10 game.
- Dionicio will be representing Switzerland at the 2021 Hlinka-Gretzky Cup in August, a tournament featuring the top U18 players in the world.
Niagara IceDogs select a pair of players from Import Draft
- On Wednesday morning, the CHL Import Draft was held with the Niagara IceDogs selecting a pair of players.
- The IceDogs used the 18th overall pick to select 17-year-old defenceman Rodwin Dionicio from Switzerland.
- Dionicio has represented the Swiss internationally at the U16, U17 and U18 levels.
- In the second round the IceDogs selected 18-year-old left winger Alex Graham from Sheffield, England.
- Since OHL teams are only permitted two import players, Graham will only play for the IceDogs if 2020 import draft selection Danil Gushchin is not sent back to the IceDogs by the San Jose Sharks, who drafted Gushchin last year.
Niagara IceDogs announce 2021-2022 season schedule
- The IceDogs will open the 2021-2022 season on the road against the Barrie Colts on Thursday, October 7th at 7:30 pm.
- The team’s home opener will be Saturday, October 9th against the Oshawa Generals.
- The IceDogs will be playing their entire season within the Eastern Conference, with the exception of 6 games against the Erie Otters.
- More details regarding theme games and specialty jersey nights will be released at a later date.
- Individual tickets are not yet available for purchase.
IceDogs sign first goalie selected in the 2021 Priority Selection
- The Niagara IceDogs announced today that 2021 OHL Priority Selection 23rd overall pick Joey Costanzo has signed a Standard Player Agreement, committing to the team.
- The 6’1″ goaltender played the past two seasons with the Greater Toronto Hockey League’s (GTHL) Toronto Marlboros AAA.
- Costanzo is regarded as one of the top 2005-born goaltenders who were available in the draft.
- IceDogs GM Joey Burke said that Costanzo has the ability to be a star in the Ontario Hockey League and is a player who is capable of winning a championship in Niagara.
IceDogs draft pick Juan Copeland commits to Niagara
- The Niagara IceDogs announced that 2021 OHL Priority Selection 22nd overall pick Juan Copeland has signed a Standard Player Agreement, committing to the team.
- The 5’11” left-winger played the past three seasons with the Detroit Honeybaked AAA program (2018-21).
- IceDogs GM Joey Burke said that Copeland was a player they targeted all season long.
- Copeland, who is an American, had a number of options available to him including the NCAA.
