Trae Bell-Haynes Re-signs with the River Lions

  • The Niagara River Lions announced today that 25-year-old Trae Bell-Haynes will return for the 2021 season.
  • Bell Haynes is currently playing for the Hakro Merlins Crailsheim of the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL), Germany’s top tier professional league. 
  • Prior to Bell-Haynes professional career, the 6’2″ point guard spent all four years of college basketball with the University of Vermont, NCAA Division 1 school.
  • During the 2020 Summer Series, Bell-Haynes led the team in points per game (16.2), assists per game (4.2), steals per game (1.5) and field goal percentage (52.5%).
  • This will be Bell-Haynes 3rd season with the River Lions.

All COVID-19 outbreaks at Niagara Health are over

  • The end of two outbreaks at the Niagara Health Welland Site means there are currently no COVID-19 outbreaks at Niagara Health.
  • COVID-19 outbreaks on the Fourth-Floor Unit and the Extended Care Unit, a long-term care home, were declared over today.
  • The outbreaks were declared over after 14 days of enhanced monitoring of patients, residents and staff showed there had been no evidence of further transmission
  • As well, there have been no new additional COVID-19 cases within those units.

St. Catharines planning virtual Family Day events

  • Due to COVID-19, the City has moved online with the 2021 Family Day celebrations.
  • The museum will run several virtual activities on Family Day live on its Facebook page
  • St. Catharines Aquatics will present a series of water-themed, at home experiments.
  • On Friday the City will launch the first of its StayActiveSTC Challenge series, utilizing the GooseChase App with games to challenge the whole family.
  • At noon on Feb. 15 the St. Catharines Culture Facebook page will host an Indigenous Story-telling and Artistic Response event.

  • Niagara Region Public Health has received a number of reports of a phone scam in the area about the COVID-19 vaccine.
  • The Region is not calling residents to schedule vaccine appointments at this time, and will never ask for payment for COVID-19 immunization. 
  • If you receive a call like this, please hang up immediately and do not provide any personal information such as your health card or credit card number.
  • COVID-19 vaccine delivery in Niagara is currently focused on priority populations and vaccine clinics are not open to the general public.
