  • Only about half of Niagara residents 12-17 years old as well as 18-29 years old have been vaccinated or have an appointment booked to get vaccinated as the more contagious B.1.617, or Delta variant continues to spread. Early data shows younger people are at higher risk for the variant with cases usually being more severe and more likely to require hospital admission. (St. Catharines Standard)
  • Ontario will begin Step One of the reopening plan on Friday, allowing patios to resume operation and non-essential retail to accept in-person customers again. A more complete list of what is allowed can be found here. (CTV News)
  • Ontario is reporting its lowest number of new daily COVID-19 infections since the end of September with 525 new cases today while Niagara reported only nine new COVID-19 cases, its lowest tally since February.
  • Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says the federal government plans to take a phased approach to allowing international visitors to enter Canada and that visitors coming to Canada will need to be fully vaccinated before arriving. (610 CKTB)

  • Port Colborne will open its beaches to non-residents starting Wednesday. However, individuals who do not reside in the city of Port Colborne will need to purchase a day pass in order to access Nickel Beach. Currently, day passes cost between $17.69 and $22.12 for Niagara residents. (610 CKTB)
  • According to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Canada won’t rush into reopening its border with the United States. Trudeau said that 75 per cent of Canadians need to be vaccinated and daily cases need to continue to decline across Canada before reopening the border will be considered. (Thorold News)
  • Niagara reported its lowest single-day count of COVID-19 cases since February 22 with 10 new cases while Ontario reported just 916 new cases, its lowest single day count since February 17. (St. Catharines Standard)
