  • St. Catharines is extending their downtown street closures to include Sundays from 11am – 6pm in addition to Fridays and Saturdays from 4pm – 11pm. The street closures free up more space for pedestrians and permits restaurants to expand their patios. (Niagara this Week)
  • The Grape and Wine Festival will return this fall on a smaller scale. The large celebration in Montebello Park will not happen due to COVID-19 but performances will take place in the backyard space of the downtown Performing Arts Centre. (610 CKTB)
  • While non-Delta variant cases of COVID-19 have almost been eliminated in Ontario, the Delta variant is still a concern according to Dr. Mustafa Hirji. Many countries are seeing rising case counts of the Delta variant as it spreads more easily and is more difficult to control. (St. Catharines Standard)

Niagara Parks continues phased reopening on July 16

  • Niagara Parks will be opening additional sites and locations beginning on Friday, July 16.
  • On July 16, Niagara Parks will reopen the Butterfly Conservatory and the Butterfly Café, as well as the TaylorMade Performance Fitting Centre (indoors) at Legends.
  • On July 23, Niagara Parks will begin operation of its WEGO Green Line.
  • Also on July 23, Table Rock House Restaurant will open for indoor dining and the Niagara’s Fury attraction is tentatively set to reopen.
  • Additionally, Niagara Parks sites that have already reopened will follow the new guidelines for increased capacities outlined in Step Three of the provincial Roadmap to Reopen.

  • Detectives with Niagara Regional Police are working with the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office as they investigate the cause of today’s massive downtown fire. Crews from all six of the city’s fire halls, as well as assistance from Thorold and Pelham fire stations, fought to keep the fire at the the former Welland House Hotel on Ontario Street under control for most of the day. The building will likely need to be demolished. (St. Catharines Standard)
  • Niagara College students living in residence for the Fall 2021 semester must show proof of at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and have an appointment for a second dose before they will be allowed to move in. (610 CKTB)
  • The COVID-19 vaccination clinic at the Seymour-Hannah Sports and Entertainment Centre in St. Catharines will be closed Wednesday, July 14 because of limited supply of vaccine but is expected to reopen on Thursday. (Niagara this Week)

Niagara Region Public Health COVID-19 vaccination clinic appointments available

  • Niagara Region Public Health has COVID-19 vaccination appointments available across Niagara over the next two weeks, including at clinics in St. Catharines (at Brock University), Niagara-on-the-Lake, Wainfleet, Fort Erie, Niagara Falls, and West Lincoln (Smithville).
  • Appointments are available for residents 12 and older for first and second doses.
  • Appointments can be booked either online through the provincial portal at Ontario.ca/bookvaccine or by calling the provincial booking system at 1-833-943-3900.
