  • West Lincoln Mayor David Bylsma caused a stir at regional council meeting when he criticized Emily Spanton, a member of one of the Region’s advisory committees and Councillor Laura Ip. Bylsma said he was concerned over a tweet by Spanton which included an image of a burned church and three orange hearts while Ip was criticized for comments she made on CHCH News. Niagara Health closing COVID-19 vaccination clinic at Seymour-Hannah arena

  • Niagara Health announced today that it will wind down its mass vaccination clinic at the Seymour-Hannah arena in mid-August, allowing the sports and entertainment centre to be returned to the City of St. Catharines.
  • A smaller vaccination clinic will be opened at the St. Catharines hospital to continue vaccinating those who still need their first or second dose.
  • As of July 21, Niagara Health has administered 238,651 doses at its mass immunization clinic.

  • For the first time in months, there are no COVID-19 patients in Niagara being cared for in the ICU although four people are being treated in hospital. (610 CKTB)
  • Some U.S. politicians are upset that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security is keeping the land border closed from Canada to the U.S. until at least Aug 21. New York Rep. Brian Higgins says he’s infuriated and that keeping the border closed is unnecessary. (610 CKTB).
  • Distance runner Mohammed Ahmed, who is a St. Catharines Collegiate grad, and Coxswain Kristen Kit, who started rowing in St Catharines in 2002, will be competing at the Olympics in Toyko which starts this week. (Thorold News)
  • Although COVID-19 cases continue to decrease in Niagara, the Delta variant is causing cases to spike elsewhere as the number of new cases more than doubled in the past 10 days in the U.S, while England now has the most cases it has seen since January. (St. Catharines Standard)
