Jackfish fall to Brantford 9-6
- The Welland Jackfish were defeated by the Brantford Red Sox 9-6 in front of more than 900 fans at the Welland Stadium on Thursday night.
- The loss dropped the Jackfish back to .500 with a 12-12 record.
- The Jackfish return to Welland Stadium Saturday afternoon for a 1:05 p.m. match up against the Kitchener Panthers.
IceDogs training camp opens August 31st
- The Niagara IceDogs are set to open training camp on Tuesday, August 31 at the Meridian Centre with camp concluding on Thursday, September 2.
- The IceDogs will play their annual Red vs White game on September 2 at 7 p.m. at the Meridian Centre. The game is free of charge but tickets are required.
- Tickets can be reserved ahead of time by contacting the IceDogs office.
- Tickets will also be available at the door.
Jackfish defeat Brantford 6-1
- The Welland Jackfish defeated the Brantford Red Sox 6-1 Wednesday night at Arnold Anderson Stadium in Brantford.
- Dennis Dei Baning and Matt Hilderbrandt each hit homeruns for the Jackfish, who outhit Brantford 11-5
- The Jackfish are back in action on Thursday when the host the Red Sox at 7:30 p.m. at the Welland Stadium.
Jackfish fall short in Hamilton
- The Welland Jackfish scored a pair of runs in the ninth inning but fell short 14-13 to the Hamilton Cardinals on Sunday.
- The Jackfish out hit the Cardinals 20-16.
- Dane Tofteland hit a pair of home runs for the Jackfish.
- The Jackfish are back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Brantford to take on the Red Sox.
- The two teams then play again the following night at 7:30 p.m. at the Welland Stadium.
River Lions lose in league finals
- The Edmonton Stingers became the first repeat champions of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) with a convincing 101-65 win over the Niagara River Lions in front of 2,710 fans at the Expo Centre in Edmonton.
- Phil Scrubb led all River Lions players with 17 points, six assists, and three steals while Tommy Scrubb finished with 15 points and six rebounds.
- The River Lions advanced to Sunday’s finals by defeating Fraser Valley 84-82 in the semi-finals played Friday night.
River Lions advance to championship game on Sunday
- Philip Scrubb scored a game-winning three-pointer to give the Niagara River Lions an 84-82 win over the Fraser Valley Bandits on Friday in Edmonton to advance to Sunday’s CEBL title game.
- The River Lions will play the Edmonton Stingers on Sunday at 4 p.m. ET in the championship game.
- The game will be broadcasted live on CBC TV. Fans can also stream the game on CEBL+, CBC GEM and CBCSports.ca.
River Lions set for semi-final game Friday night
- The Niagara River Lions take on the Fraser Valley Bandits at 7 p.m. Friday in the CEBL semi-final game.
- The game, being played in Edmonton, will be broadcasted live at 7:00 p.m. ET on CBC TV, CEBL+ and CBC Gem.
- Many of the River Lions players have been unable to practice this week as a positive COVID-19 test result forced many players into self-isolation.
- However, the River Lions got a boost with the return of former Duke Blue Devil Javin DeLaurier, who was playing in the NBA Summer League.
- The championship game will take place Sunday at 4 p.m. ET.
Jackfish crush Hamilton Cardinals 13-2
- The Welland Jackfish belted out 20 hits on their way to a 13-2 win over the Hamilton Cardinals Thursday night at the Welland Stadium.
- Brendon Dadson hit his second home run of the season while Brandon Nicholson went 3 for 4 at the plate including a double and triple.
- The 11-10 Jackfish are back in action on Sunday when they travel to Hamilton to take on the Cardinals again.
