Jackfish eliminated from post season

  • The Welland Jackfish had their season come to an end on Saturday afternoon, losing to the Barrie Baycats 6-2 in Barrie.
  • The Baycats swept the COVID-19 shortened best-of-three quarter-finals with two straight wins.

IceDogs sign Aidan Castle

  • After completing a trade on Friday to acquire Aidan Castle, the Oshawa Generals 2020 first-round draft pick, the Niagara IceDogs have announced that they have signed the 17 year-old forward over the weekend.
  • Castle played the 2019-20 season with the Greater Toronto Hockey League’s (GTHL) Toronto Jr. Canadiens.
  • In 62 games, the Mississauga native collected 35 goals and 35 assists.

IceDogs acquire Aidan Castle in trade with Oshawa

  • The Niagara IceDogs completed a trade with the Oshawa Generals for the rights to the Generals’ 2020 OHL Priority Selection first round pick (13th overall), Aidan Castle.
  • In exchange, the IceDogs sent their 2nd, 3rd, and 4th round picks in 2022 as well as their 4th round pick in 2024 to Oshawa.
  • Castle had not yet signed with the Generals.
  • IceDogs’ General Manager Joey Burke said they are still working with the family and agency on having Castle officially commit to Niagara but are confident he will play for the IceDogs this season.

Jackfish lose first game of playoffs

  • The Welland Jackfish lost game one of their best-of-3 quarter-final series against the Barrie Baycats 5-3 Thursday at the Welland Stadium.
  • With the Jackfish leading 3-2, the Baycats scored 3 runs in the seventh inning, including 2 runs on a homerun by Avary Tuck, to take a 5-3 lead.
  • Game 2 will take place Saturday in Barrie at 4:05 p.m.
  • Game 3, if necessary, is scheduled for Sunday at 4:05 p.m. at the Welland Stadium.

Jackfish announce quarter-final schedule

  • The Welland Jackfish have announced their best-of-three quarter-final playoff schedule against the Barrie Baycats.
  • Game 1 is Thursday, September 9 at 7:30 p.m. at the Welland Stadium while game 2 will be Saturday, September 11 in Barrie at 4:05 p.m.
  • Game 3, if necessary, will be Sunday, September 12 at 4:05 p.m. in Welland.
  • Tickets for game one are available here.
  • The Jackfish closed out the regular season with a 4-3 loss to London on Saturday followed by a 13-10 win over Hamilton Sunday.
  • The Jackfish finished the regular season in 4th place with a 15-15 record.

Jackfish fall to Barrie; Playoff tickets on sale

  • The Barrie Baycats scored five runs in the eighth inning and added two runs in the ninth to defeat the Welland Jackfish 10-3 Friday night in Welland.
  • The Jackfish will now play their final home game Saturday at 6:05 p.m. against the first place London Majors before ending the regular season with a game in Hamilton on Sunday.
  • Playoff tickets for game one, scheduled for Thursday, September 9th at 7:30 p.m. in Welland, will go on sale Monday at 9 a.m. at the Welland Stadium box office and wellandjackfish.com/tix.
  • The Jackfish’s first round opponent has yet to be determined.

Big eighth inning gives Jackfish win over Toronto

  • The Welland Jackfish scored 6 runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to defeat the Toronto Maple Leafs 15-9 Thursday evening at the Welland Stadium.
  • The win moves the Jackfish into third place with a 14-13 record and three games remaining in the regular season.
  • The Jackfish are back home on Friday to face the Barrie Baycats at 7:30 p.m. at the Welland Stadium.

Jackfish edge Kitchener in extra innings

  • The Welland Jackfish scored a run in the top of the 10th to edge the Kitchener Panthers 5-4 Sunday afternoon in Kitchener. 
  • Dane Tofteland went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI’s for the Jackfish.
  • Tofteland’s sacrifice fly in the 10th scored Brandon Nicholson for the winning run.
  • Nicholson scored twice, while Cole Warken singled and added a solo home run.
