  • IceDogs Fire Coach – The Niagara IceDogs have parted ways with head coach Ryan Kuwabara. Ben Boudreau, who was hired by the IceDogs as an associate coach before this season began, has been named the new head coach. The IceDogs have now had four different head coaches since the start of last season. (BP Sports)

  • IceDogs Play 3 In 3 – The Niagara IceDogs kick off a 3 games in 3 nights weekend on Thursday when they host Sudbury at the Meridian Centre. The team then travels to Brantford on Friday before returning home Saturday to face Sault Ste Marie.

  • IceDogs Update – The Niagara IceDogs lost both of their games this weekend, falling to the Sudbury Wolves 3-1 on Friday and then losing to North Bay 4-3 on Saturday. The IceDogs have a record of 3 wins, 6 losses, 4 OT losses and 1 shootout loss and are currently tied with Brantford for last place in the Eastern Conference.
  • Falcons Update – The St. Catharines Falcons had a successful weekend with a 3-0 win over Hamilton on Friday followed by a 5-1 win in Port Colborne Saturday. The Falcons sit in third place in the Golden Horseshoe Conference with a record of 12-4-0-1.

Sports Update

  • IceDogs Home Saturday – The Niagara IceDogs visit Sudbury on Friday followed by a game against the North Bay Battalion Saturday at 7pm at the Meridian Centre. The IceDogs will be missing Ryan Roobroeck and Ethan Czata who are both playing at the 2023 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.
  • Falcons Add Player – The St. Catharines Falcons will host Hamilton Friday at 7pm at the Seymour-Hannah Sports and Entertainment Centre. On Thursday, the Falcons acquired defenceman Luke Gualtieri from the Niagara Falls Canucks of the OJHL.
  • Falcons Forfeit Game – After defeating Caledonia Saturday in a 4-3 shootout win, the league ruled that the Falcons dressed two 15 year-old call-up players (APs) for the game, resulting in the game being forfeited. Teams are permitted to dress only one 15 year-old AP. (BP Sports)
  • Jackfish Pitcher Moves Up – Welland Jackfish starting pitcher and 2023 Playoff MVP James Bradwell will join the Quebec Capitales of the Frontier League next season. As well, catcher Carlos Martinez has won Gold at the 2023 Pan Am Games in Chile with Team Colombia. (BP Sports)

  • Falcons win Ontario Championship. The St. Catharines Falcons defeated the Chatham Maroons 8-2 Sunday evening in Chatham to sweep the best-of-three final 2-0 and bring home their second Sutherland Cup. The Falcons last won the Sutherland Cup in 2012. (BP Sports Niagara)
  • River Lions Win In Edmonton. The Niagara River Lions defeated the Edmonton Stingers 86-74 on Saturday in Edmonton to improve their record to 1-1. The River Lions next game is Tuesday in Guelph. (Niagara River Lions)
  • Jackfish Still Perfect. The Welland Jackfish remained undefeated with an 8-6 win over Toronto Sunday afternoon in Toronto. Welland improved their record to a perfect 5-0 and will travel to Guelph on Tuesday to take on the Guelph Royals. (Welland Jackfish)
  • Brock Names Hockey Coach. T.J. Manastersky has been named the new head coach of the Brock Men’s hockey team. Manastersky was the head coach of Curry College in Milton, Mass., from 2012 to 2021. He was the youngest head coach in the NCAA in his first year, and was named Commonwealth Coast Conference Coach of the Year in 2018-19. Manastersky takes over the role from Kevin Forrest, who served as interim head coach last season. (Brock Badgers)

  • Falcons Lose In OT. The St. Catharines Falcons lost 4-3 in overtime against Cambridge at the Jack Gatecliff Arena Tuesday night in the Sutherland Cup round robin. The same two teams play again Wednesday in Cambridge. A win by the Falcons would clinch first place in the round robin while a loss would leave all three teams with a 2-2 record. First place would then be decided by goal differential while the other two teams would play a tie beaker game. (BP Sports Niagara)
  • River Lions Radio Broadcast. GiantFM and Country89 will be delivering live coverage of all River Lions home and away games during the 2022 CEBL season. Fans will be able to listen by downloading the stations mobile apps or by visiting their websites. (Niagara River Lions)
  • Jackfish Come From Behind To Win. The Welland Jackfish scored 6 runs in the ninth inning to come from behind and defeat the London Majors 8-7 Saturday afternoon in Welland. The (2-0) Jackfish now host the Hamilton Cardinals Thursday night at the Welland Stadium at 7:30 PM. (Welland Jackfish)

  • Falcons Win In OT. The St. Catharines Falcons defeated the Chatham Maroons 3-2 in overtime in their first game of the Sutherland Cup round robin. The Falcons’ second game will take place Friday night at 7 PM at the Jack Gatecliff Arena against Chatham. (BP Sports Niagara)
  • Free Ride To River Lions Games. Niagara River Lions fans will be able to ride St. Catharines transit for free on all home game days through the entire 2022 season. Ticket holders will be able to ride St. Catharines Transit from three hours prior to tip-off and up to two hours after the game by presenting their mobile or printed ticket upon boarding the bus.   • Falcons Open Sutherland Cup Tuesday. The St. Catharines Falcons open the Sutherland Cup round robin on Tuesday in Chatham. Chatham will then travel to St. Catharines to take on the Falcons on Friday, May 20 at 7pm at the Jack Gatecliff Arena. The only other home game for the Falcons in the round robin is Tuesday, May 24 against Cambridge. The top two teams out of the round robin will advance to a best-of-three Ontario championship.   • River Lions Open Training Camp. The Niagara River Lions opened their training camp on Monday at the Canada Games Park and Walker Sports and Abilities Centre in Thorold. The pro basketball team’s first game is May 25 in Saskatchewan. (BP Sports Niagara)

  • Falcons Win Conference Championship. The St. Catharines Falcons defeated the Hamilton Kilty B’s 1-0 Friday night at the Jack Gatecliff Arena to win the Golden Horseshoe Conference championships. The Falcons took the best-of-seven series 4-2, winning their 17th league championship and first since 2013. The Falcons will now advance to the Sutherland Cup round-robin against the winners of the two other Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League conference champions. (BP Sports Niagara)

  • Niagara IceDogs defenceman Landon Cato is a nominee for the 2021-22 Dan Snyder Memorial Trophy, which is awarded to the OHL Humanitarian of the Year. Cato has consistently been a leader for off-ice appearances, has visited schools to discuss the effects of bullying and sponsors two kids who are playing ball hockey. (Niagara IceDogs)
