Welland Jackfish and IBL hope to begin season on July 5th
- According to the province’s Roadmap to Reopening announced last week, the IBL could be playing baseball by July 5, albeit with restrictions.
- The IBL is currently preparing a Return to Play plan to submit to the province as the IBL cannot resume play without an approved plan.
- The IBL plan will address such aspects as fan capacity and distancing, masks, and the use of clubhouses, buses and concessions.
- Phase Three, which could start on July 26, would see some restrictions eased.
- A July 5 IBL opening would see regular-season games into early September followed by a shortened playoff season.
OHL announce key dates for 2021-2022 season
- The Ontario Hockey League and the Niagara IceDogs have announced that opening night for the 2021-22 regular season is set for Thursday, October 7.
- Players will report to training camps on Saturday, September 4.
- The OHL will play a conventional 68-game regular season schedule which concludes on Sunday, April 3, 2022.
- The playoffs will get underway on Thursday, April 7 and run through Monday, May 30 at the latest.
- The OHL champion will advance to the 2022 Memorial Cup to be held June 2-12.
Junior A lacrosse returning this summer
- The Ontario Junior A Lacrosse League (OJALL) announced today that the league intends to return to the floor in 2021.
- The OJALL, which includes the St. Catharines Junior A Athletics, saw their entire 2020 season cancelled due to COVID-19.
- The 2021 season will debut a suite of premiere events aimed at boosting the profile of junior players and National Lacrosse League (NLL) prospects.
- Details about the 2021 entry draft, player training camps, junior combine, pro showcase, and other league information will be announced in the coming weeks.
