Sports Update

  • IceDogs End Losing Streak – The Niagara IceDogs ended a ten game losing streak by defeated the Barrie Colts 3-0 on Sunday. Earlier action this past week saw the IceDogs fall to both Erie and Mississauga. The IceDogs remain in last place in the OHL.
  • Falcons Advance – The St. Catharines Falcons advanced to the conference semifinals by defeating the Pelham Panthers four games to one. The Falcons will now take on the Fort Erie Meteors in a best-of-seven series.
  • River Lions Sign Two – The Niagara River Lions have announced the return of 6’6 forward, TJ Lall and 6’1 guard, Kimbal Makenzie, both returning to the team for a second consecutive year. (Niagara River Lions)

  • IceDogs Won’t Make Playoffs – The Niagara IceDogs have been eliminated from making the playoffs after loses to Ottawa (7-1) and Peterborough (6-4) this weekend. The IceDogs have failed to make the playoffs for the 4th straight season after making the playoffs for 12 consecutive seasons.
  • Brock Wins Championship – The Brock University Women’s Volleyball team won the OUA Championships after defeating McMaster on Friday. Brock will now play for the National Championships. (Brock University)
  • Falcons Lead Series 2-0 – The St. Catharines Falcons opened the Golden Horseshoe Conference Quarterfinals with a pair of victories of the Pelham Panthers. Game 3 of the best-of-seven series is Tuesday in St. Catharines.

Sports Update

  • IceDogs Drop Two – The Niagara IceDogs dropped a pair of games this past week, losing to Ottawa 8-2 and North Bay 9-3. Their game on Saturday was postponed due to an issue with the ice at the Barrie Arena. The IceDogs remain in last place in the OHL, 12 points out of a playoff spot with 9 games remaining.
  • Falcons Place Third – The St. Catharines Falcons finished the regular season in third place in the Golden Horseshoe Conference with a 36-12-1-1 record. They will begin the playoffs Friday in St. Catharines against Pelham.

  • IceDogs Lose Big – The Niagara IceDogs lost both games last week, falling to Oshawa 7-2 and Kingston 8-1. The IceDogs remain in last place in the OHL and are now 10 points out of a playoff spot with only 11 games left to play.
  • Win For Canada Basketball – Canada defeated Nicaragua 96-51 at the Meridian Centre on Friday in a 2025 FIBA AmeriCup Qualifying game. Attendance at the game was 3821 and Canadian head coach Nate Bjorkgren said that it was great to play in front of a passionate, loud crowd. (Giant FM)
  • Jackfish Sellout – The Welland Jackfish have announced that their inaugural school day game on May 7 is officially sold out. (Twitter)

  • Falcons Move Into Second – The St. Catharines Falcons moved into second place in the GOJHL Golden Horseshoe Conference with a pair of wins over the weekend. The Falcons defeated Kitchener-Waterloo 3-1 at home on Friday and then defeated Brantford 5-3 in Brantford on Saturday.

  • Falcons Win A Pair – The St. Catharines Falcons won both of their games over the weekend, defeating Port Colborne 5-2 at home Friday and beating Caledonia 5-4 on Saturday in Caledonia. The Falcons are in third place in the Golden Horseshoe Conference, one point back of second place Fort Erie.
  • River Lions Release Schedule – The Niagara River Lions released their schedule this past week. A total of 20 regular season games will be played over 10 weeks. The River Lions open the season against the Brampton Honey Badgers at the CAA Centre on May 24th before hosting the Honey Badgers at the Meridian Centre on May 30th. (Niagara River Lions)

  • Panthers Lose A Pair – The Pelham Panthers lost both of their games last week, falling to Caledonia 3-0 and to St. Catharines 7-3. Pelham sits in fifth place in the Golden Horseshoe Conference, one point in front of Port Colborne.
  • Jackfish Sign College Standout – The Welland Jackfish have signed U.S. college standout Greyson Barrett, who played for Texas Wesleyan University in Fort Worth. The 23 year-old first baseman/outfielder compiled a .415 batting average with 20 home runs, 88 RBI and a 1.278 OPS in 200 collegiate at-bats in 2023. (Welland Jackfish)

  • Jackfish Schedule – The Welland Jackfish have released their 2024 schedule and home games at Welland Stadium will be played on 9 Thursdays, 10 Saturdays, 1 Sunday and 1 Monday.   • Falcons Fall – The St. Catharines Falcons lost their lone game last week, falling to Fort Erie 6-4 on Friday. The Falcons remain in third place in the conference, two points back of second place Fort Erie.
  • Panthers Defeat Welland – The Pelham Panthers defeated Welland 4-3 in Welland on Sunday in their only game last week. The Panthers are in 5th place in the Golden Horseshoe Conference, one point ahead of Port Colborne.
  • Jackfish Sign Power Hitter – The Welland Jackfish have announced their second signing of the 2024 season, Torrin Vaselenak who lead the West Coast League in homeruns this past summer. Vaselenak also earned himself a spot in the 2023 WCBL All-Star Game and played four seasons for the Arkansas-Monticello Boll Weevil. (Welland Jackfish)
