Nominations open for 2021 St. Catharines Arts Awards

  • Online nominations are being accepted for the 2021 St. Catharines Arts Awards.
  • Local artists, residents, businesses, volunteers, patrons and organizations are eligible to be nominated.
  • Nominations are available for the categories: Arts in Education, Emerging Artist, Established Artist, Making a Difference and Patron of the Arts.
  • This year’s awards will be held in the fall of 2021.

City funding available for community gardens

  • St. Catharines is providing funding for the building or expanding of community gardens.
  • Incorporated charities and not-for-profit groups can apply for matching funds from the city to cover up to half of eligible start-up costs, including lumber, soil, seeds, rain barrels and other materials and equipment.
  • The city hopes to encourage more community gardens for the purposes of growing produce.

City seeks input on new recreation facility allocation policy

  • The city of St. Catharines is seeking public input for a new recreation facility allocation policy.
  • The new policy will include all city recreation facilities, creating a uniform process to ensure facility use is fair for all users.
  • In late 2020 the city held consultations with existing user and stakeholder groups and is now expanding those consultations to the public through an online survey.
  • Residents can take the survey by visiting engagestc.ca/RecFacilities before March 1, 2021.

COVID-19 vaccination clinic at St. Catharines arena

  • Niagara Health will open a new COVID-19 vaccination clinic at the Seymour Hannah Sports and Entertainment Centre.
  • The clinic will be available by appointment only for health care workers including long-term care and high-risk retirement home staff and essential caregivers, and Niagara Health staff and physicians.
  • The clinic will use a full rink as well as space in the main atrium and will replace the current clinic held at the St. Catharines Hospital.
  • The larger clinic will allow for more people to be vaccinated each day and will maximize physical distancing.
