  • 17 nominees have been chosen as finalists for the 2021 St. Catharines Arts Awards.
  • This year’s nominees are a diverse group ranging from visual artists to film makers to musicians, and more.
  • The nominees represent some of the best that St. Catharines has to offer and are world-class talents who call St. Catharines home.
  • The 2021 St. Catharines Arts Awards will be presented as a free live-stream event on Sunday, Nov. 21.

Local events to receive provincial funding

  • Five St. Catharines festivals and events will be receiving financial support from the Ontario Government through its Reconnect Festival and Event Program.
  • Emancipation Day Weekend and Picnic, Love Niagara, Niagara Grape and Wine Festival, Rhizomes 2020 In the Soil Multi Arts Festival and The Ladies Foursome by Norm Foster will all receive provincial funding.
  • The province is providing $43 million to support 439 festivals and events through the Reconnect program, known as Celebrate Ontario prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • The program was developed to help festival and event organizers adapt to new public health measures with virtual, drive-through and other safe offerings.

City of St. Catharines helping connect generations through use of technology

  • The City of St. Catharines is partnering with Cyber-Seniors to help eliminate the digital divide by providing older adults technology training, using an intergenerational volunteer model.
  • The City will connect seniors with digital mentors for technology training, with the aim of heightening their cyber skills – allowing them to keep socially connected and engaged, while also forging a unique connection with youth volunteers.
  • The program is set to launch on Aug. 9.

St. Catharines city facilities open this holiday weekend

  • City pools and splash pads will be open throughout the weekend and Sunset, Lakeside Park and Jones Beaches remain open for use.
  • The St. Catharines Museum and Welland Canals Centre will be open all weekend, as well as Monday 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Garden City Golf Course will be open from 7 a.m. to dusk all weekend, including Monday.
  • Lakeside Park Carousel is open over the weekend, including Monday 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Morningstar Mill will be open Saturday and Sunday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and on Monday, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Happy Rolph’s Animal Farm will be open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. all weekend.
