Conditional offer for Walker Family YMCA

  • The YMCA of Niagara has signed a conditional offer with a purchaser for the Walker Family YMCA building in St. Catharines.
  • This past Monday, St. Catharines city council voted to inform the YMCA that the city is interested in investing in the Walker Family YMCA to keep it open to the public.
  • However, because of the signed conditional offer, the YMCA is now unable to discuss any type of partnership with the city.

St. Catharines Council approves new procedure by-law

  • An updated procedural by-law, which governs the proceedings of St. Catharines Council meeting, was approved by councillors.
  • Changes approved include provisions to permit electronic participation moving forward; moving to a one-meeting system (i.e. just holding Council meetings instead of holding both Council and General Committee on the same evening); publishing timelines; the start time for Council meetings; and clarifying rules regarding reconsiderations, delegations, and the use of ballots (when required).
