City looking to public for input on 2022 municipal election

  • St. Catharines is examining the possibility of introducing new voting methods for the 2022 municipal election in addition to traditional in-person casting of ballots.
  • Potential voting methods include mail-in voting, internet voting and telephone voting.
  • The city is looking to get feedback from residents on this topic through a survey at EngageSTC.ca/Vote2022.
  • The survey will be open for responses until Oct. 18 at 4 p.m..

New track and field facility to be named after Olympic runner

  • Plans are underway for a new synthetic track and turf field to be constructed at St. Catharines Collegiate Secondary School.
  • The new facility will be named after Mohammed Ahmed, a former Collegiate student who earned a silver medal in the 5000-metre run at the Summer Olympic Games.
  • A date for when the track and field at St. Catharines Collegiate will be complete is still to be announced

St. Catharines protects employees with new vaccine requirements

  • In an effort to protect not only its employees but also members of the public, the City of St. Catharines will require all City employees to obtain COVID-19 vaccinations.
  • Exceptions will be made for those unable to receive the vaccine due to a Human Rights Code exemption.
  • The City is instituting the policy with a phased-in approach, providing employees who have not yet been vaccinated adequate time to receive two doses.
  • The employee vaccination policy applies to all City employees, students working in the organization and volunteers, with the exception of volunteer members of boards, commissions or advisory committees.

City of St. Catharines facilities require proof of vaccination starting Sept 22

  • Starting Wednesday, Sept. 22, to comply with provincial regulations, anyone aged 12 and older will be required to show proof they are fully COVID-19 vaccinated to enter City of St. Catharines public facilities – unless an exemption applies.
  • Upon entering City facilities, visitors should be prepared to show an electronic or paper copy of your COVID-19 vaccination receipt indicating you are fully vaccinated and matching government issued identification with name and date of birth.
  • Acceptable identification includes a driver’s licence, birth certificate, citizenship card, Indian status card / Indigenous membership card, passport, permanent resident card or health card.
