Sports Update

  • Jackfish Sign 10 Year Lease – The Welland Jackfish and the City of Welland have agreed to terms on a new ten-year lease, effective immediately and running through the 2033 season. A number of improvements to Welland Stadium will take place this offseason including improved concessions, a new group patio and a 40 foot merchandise store. (Welland Jackfish)
  • Falcons Lose Pair – The St. Catharines Falcons lost a pair of games on the weekend falling to the Welland Jr. Canadians in OT on Friday before losing to Fort Erie 6-5 on Saturday in Fort Erie. The Falcons remain in third place in the Golden Horseshoe Conference, eight points behind second place Fort Erie.
  • IceDogs Trade Goalie – The Niagara IceDogs traded goalie Marcus Vandenberg to the Sudbury Wolves in exchange for a 2024 3rd round pick and a 2027 3rd round pick. Vandenberg, who was named OHL Goaltender of the Week last Monday, was acquired by the IceDogs from Kitchener in June in exchange for a 2024 2nd round pick, a 2027 5th round pick and defenceman Gabriel Runco.
  • IceDogs Lose Three – The Niagara IceDogs fell to Erie 4-1 on Thursday, lost 8-4 to Sudbury on Friday and were defeated 5-3 on Sunday by Mississauga. Saturday’s game saw the IceDogs get outshot 50-24. The IceDogs are in last place in the OHL and are 9 points out of a playoff spot.
