  • COVID Assessment Centre Closing – Niagara Health is closing their COVID, Cold and Flu Care Clinics and the COVID-19 Assessment Centre on Friday, March 31. Niagara Health said the closing will free up staff which will help ease staffing pressure at local hospitals.  COVID-19 testing will be available at select pharmacies and doctors will continue to prescribe Paxlovid.   • Summer Games A Financial Success – The Canada Summer Games in Niagara was a financial success and finished with a surplus of between $3 million and $3.5 million. The money has been earmarked to establish a sport legacy fund to advance sport in Niagara through an organization called Sport Niagara. As well, the games generated more than $350 million in economic activity. (CKTB)
  • Firefighters Dominate Sunshine List – The annual Sunshine List, which publicizes the names, salaries, and taxable benefits of all employees paid $100,000 or more that work for an organization that receives public funding from the province, has been released. In St. Catharines, about 140 of approximately 205 city employees who were on the list were employed by the fire department. Niagara Regional Police Chief Bryan MacCulloch was the top-paid public sector worker in Niagara earning $675,509 in 2022. However, the amount was a result of the chief’s postponed retirement plans rather than a reflection of his actual income. (Niagara Falls Review, St. Catharines Standard)
