  • The City of St. Catharines has sent a cease-and-desist letter to a community led group that attempted to turn the fire-destroyed property of a former knife factory into a skate park. The city said while they appreciate the effort of the group, there are liability, insurance and safety concerns with the skatepark which is on city owned property. (Niagara this Week)
  • The Canadian women’s eight rowing crew has captured gold at the Tokyo Olympics. One of the members of the team is Kristen Kit of St. Catharines. (St. Catharines Standard)
  • Niagara’s acting medical officer of health, Dr. Mustafa Hirji, said the COVID-19 Delta variant is likely to blame for severe cases, fatalities and intensive care unit admissions related to COVID-19. The victim of the region’s most recent COVID-19 death had received both doses of vaccine but still succumbed to the virus. (St. Catharines Standard)
  • The Canadian Federation of Independent Business called on the province to communicate its plans for pandemic rules after Step 3 and how it will respond if infections spike again. The group said that many businesses are just handing on and need to know what the pathway is to remove the remaining restrictions and what restrictions will by kept in place. (Global News)
