- Rally For Asylum Seekers – A rally outside Niagara Falls city hall was held on Sunday to show support for thousands of asylum seekers who have been placed in hotels in the Falls. The rally also called for equal rights and permanent resident status for all migrants and refugees in Canada and asked politicians and media to consider talking about the situation in a manner that will not incite division in the community. - Train Derailment In Port Colborne – On March 18, a train carrying wheat derailed near Main Street West and King Street in Port Colborne. A substantial amount of wheat was dumped in a privately owned parking lot but has now been cleaned up. The cause of the derailment remains under investigation although there is no indication that the train tracks had been tampered with. (Niagara Regional Police)
- Zellers Diner Comes To Pen Centre – The Zellers Diner on Wheels will be at the Pen Centre on Sunday Mar 26 from 11:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Items on the menu include the Big Z Burger, the Hot Chicken Sandwich, fries and gravy, the grilled cheese and chicken fingers. A Zellers store will open inside the Hudson Bay at the Pen Centre on March 23. (The River)
- Region Wins Severe Weather Grant – Niagara Region Emergency Management has won the ImpactWx Genesis Grant for the “Weather Aware & Prepared” initiative. The grant will allow for the development of a severe weather education program for children that will be delivered at the Niagara Safety Village in Welland. Using research and best practices, kids will be empowered to keep themselves and their families safe from severe weather. (Niagara Region)
